The winter season is upon us, which means a ton of people will be taking to the roads and the skies this season to explore the best winter wonderlands. The coldest months of the year usually bring with them some of the most beautiful sights to see. Winter has its fair share of spectacular places to visit. Here are some of my favorite spots, and the best places for a winter getaway.
Utrecht, Netherlands
Filled with beautiful old homes, bridges, and canals, Utrecht is often referred to as a little Amsterdam, just with fewer tourists, especially in the winter months. Visit the Dom Tower, St. Martins Cathedral, and DOMunder.
At DOMunder you can explore some of the Netherlands’ best archaeological treasures. This is the perfect activity if you’re interested in Roman and medieval history. If music is more of your jam, connect with your inner musician at the Speelklok Museum.
Bavaria, Germany
A well-known tourist attraction and wintery getaway, Neuschwanstein Castle is one of the most visited castles in Germany. Located in the Alps in Bavaria, Germany, in a magnificent landscape, on the top of a hill, the castle overlooks the Hohenschwangau valley, close to the town of Fussen. The fairytale look of the castle inspired Disney to create the Magic Kingdom.
The best time to visit the castle is during the months of March, April, and May when the snow is not too deep.
Reykjavik, Iceland
This city is consistently voted as one of the top destinations for winter travel in the world. One of the most famous attractions in Reykjavik is the Blue Lagoon, where you can experience the geothermal waters.
Winter is the best time to visit, as the Northern Lights are at their peak. Explore glaciers, go ice cave trekking, and enjoy outdoor adventures that include snowmobiling.
The winter season is one of the most exciting times of the year, as it brings with it the holidays, and a chance to enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery!
